Schutter Fans 10 as Bison Defeat North Newton, 9–3

Oxford, IN – April 24, 2025 Mason Schutter struck out 10 batters to lead the Benton Central to a 9–3 win over North Newton on Thursday. The lefty allowed just four hits and two runs over 4 1/3 innings while walking four. North Newton took an early lead in the fourth inning when Domanic Hudec delivered a two-run single. The Bison responded in the bottom of the fourth, taking control of the game. A North Newton error tied things up, followed by a sacrifice fly from Tanner Pitstick, a groundout RBI from Miles Cooley, and a Carter Fox RBI single to right—all contributing to a four-run frame. North Newton's Kory Viers took the loss, allowing four runs (one earned) on six hits across 3 2/3 innings, striking out four and walking one. Benton Central’s offense stayed hot, tallying 14 hits in the game. Kaydric Tyson and Tanner Pitstick led the way with three hits apiece, while Kamron Rider and Miles Cooley each drove in two runs. Nolan Winkler chipped in with two hits in four at-bats. For North Newton, Hudec finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Korbyn Haberlin went 2-for-3, and Preston Boezeman stole two of the team’s five total bases. With the win, Benton Central improves to 3–7 on the season and will host the Tri-County Cavaliers on Friday, April 25, at Darrell Snodgrass Field.
