Lafayette Central Catholic Overpowers Benton Central in Monday Matchup

Benton Central Varsity Bison struck first in the top of the first inning when a wild pitch allowed a run to score. However, Lafayette Central Catholic quickly answered, tying the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning following a Benton Central error. LCC took the lead in the second inning on an RBI single by Hudson Gutwein, making it 3-1. They broke the game open in the third, plating seven runs on four hits. Key contributors in the inning included #41 Brennan VanKirk and #9 Hudson Gutwein with two-RBI singles, while #12 Alex Schummer and #11 Mikey Stapleton each drew bases-loaded walks, and #10 Lucas Gerkey added an RBI single. Lafayette Central Catholic’s #10 Lucas Gerkey earned the win on the mound, tossing five innings while allowing five hits and two runs. He struck out six and walked one. Spencer Flook took the loss for Benton Central, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on seven hits over 2.2 innings, with three strikeouts and three walks. Offensively, the Bison were led by Spencer Flook, Grant Weise, Lucas Snyder, Kaydric Tyson, and Tanner Pitstick, who each recorded one hit. LCC collected nine hits in the game, led by Hudson Gutwein with a 3-for-4 performance. Jackson Cain and Brennan VanKirk who also had multiple hits. On the base paths, LCC was aggressive, swiping five bases, including two by Lucas Gerkey. Defensively, they played a clean game without committing an error, with Ben Weeks recording five chances in the field. The Bison will host Lafayette Central Catholic again on Wednesday, 4/16/25 in their next Hoosier Conference matchup.
