Benton Central Varsity Baseball Falls to Rensselaer Central in Extra-Inning Battle

Oxford, IN - April 10, 2025 Benton Central Varsity Bison battled until the end but ultimately fell short in a 7-5 extra-inning loss to Rensselaer Central on Friday evening. The game was tied at five heading into the top of the ninth when a defensive error allowed two runs to score, giving the Bombers the edge they needed to secure the win. Rensselaer Central opened the scoring in the third inning with a two-run single by their No. 8 hitter. The Bison showed resilience, tying the game in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a clutch single by Carter Fox, a defensive miscue, and an RBI single from Nolan Winkler. Rensselaer’s No. 9 earned the win in relief, allowing three hits and four unearned runs over four innings while striking out six and walking none. Mason Schutter took the loss for Benton Central, surrendering three runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning. Spencer Flook got the start for the Bison, tossing five strong innings and allowing just two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. Rensselaer’s No. 10 started for the Bombers, giving up two hits and one unearned run over five innings while striking out seven and walking three. Carter Fox led the Bison with two RBIs and two stolen bases, going 1-for-5 at the plate. Nolan Winkler paced the offense with a 2-for-4 performance. Rensselaer Central finished with 10 hits and five stolen bases in the game. The Bison (0-1) will look to bounce back on Saturday, April 11th, as they travel to Rensselaer Central (3-0) for a rematch at 11:00 AM EST.
