April 9, 2024 -- Lafayette, IN: In a Hoosier Conference match-up, the Benton Central Varsity Baseball team faced off against the Lafayette Central Catholic Knights at Gordon Lemming Field on a soggy Wednesday evening. The game remained scoreless through the first two innings, but the Bison took an early lead in the top of the 3rd, going up 1-0. However, the Knights fought back fiercely in the bottom half of the inning, scoring 5 runs to take a commanding 5-1 lead by the end of the 3rd inning. The momentum continued for Lafayette Central Catholic as they added another 5 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning, extending their lead to 10-2 by the end of the 4th inning. Despite Benton Central's efforts, they couldn't close the gap, ultimately falling to Lafayette Central Catholic with a final score of 10-5. Both teams showcased their offensive prowess, each tallying 9 hits in the game. However, errors proved costly for both sides, with each team committing 2 errors in the field. With this loss behind them, Benton Central looks ahead to their next game as they prepare to host the Rossville Hornets on Friday, April 12th, at 5:00 PM at Darrell Snodgrass Field.
