Lady Bison Finish Just Short of First; Bison Show Strength at Lafayette Jeff

Benton Central Varsity Co-ed Track & Field Recap April 14, 2026 – Lafayette Jefferson The Benton Central Lady Bison delivered an impressive team performance Tuesday night, finishing runner-up in a tightly contested meet, just three points shy of first place. Team Scores (Girls): Lafayette Jefferson – 69 Benton Central – 66 Twin Lakes – 32 The Lady Bison were fueled by multiple event victories and strong depth across all areas. Leading the way was a dominant performance from Sophia Zarate, who swept the throwing events with a 1st place finish in discus (122-5) and 1st in shot put (34-0). In the field events, Benton Central continued to shine as Laurana Dillon captured 1st place in the long jump (18-10), while also contributing in the hurdles. On the track, the distance crew delivered key points. Loralei Rayman won the 3200m (12:26.29) and added a 2nd place finish in the 800m, while Harlo Holder claimed 1st in the 1600m (6:02.63). The hurdles and sprint events also played a big role. Keagan Strickland was a double winner, taking 1st in the 100 hurdles (18.21) and 1st in high jump (4-8). Riley Sowders added another event win in the 300 hurdles (52.58) and placed in the high jump. The Lady Bison relays and depth performances proved critical in the narrow team finish, highlighted by a 1st place finish in the 4x800 relay (11:01.56) and a 2nd place finish in the 4x100 relay. Overall, it was a complete team effort with contributions across sprints, distance, relays, and field events—showcasing the Lady Bison’s balance and competitiveness. Benton Central Varsity Boys Track & Field Recap The Benton Central boys team competed against a strong field at Lafayette Jefferson and Twin Lakes. Team Scores (Boys): Lafayette Jefferson – 90.5 Twin Lakes – 56.5 Benton Central – 20 Despite the team score, the Bison had several standout individual performances. Alex Glotzbach led the way with a 1st place finish in the 400m (54.24), edging a very competitive field. The distance group also contributed, as Matthew McKinnis placed 2nd in the 800m (2:16.99), while Sam Fleming added points in both the 1600m and 3200m. The sprint group saw strong efforts from Eliyjah Roberson, who placed in both the 100m and 200m, along with contributions from Matthew Drake and Kayden Wade. In the field events, Benton Central was competitive in the throws, with Dominic Dean earning 3rd in discus (119-0) and additional scoring coming from Bransen Jones and Logan Hoaks in both shot put and discus. The Bison also picked up a 1st place finish in the 4x800 relay (8:51.63) and closed the night with a strong 3rd place finish in the 4x400 relay. Overall Takeaway The night clearly belonged to the Lady Bison, who put together one of their strongest all-around performances of the season and came within three points of a team title. The boys continue to show growth, with several individual champions and strong performances that will translate into future success as the season progresses. The Benton Central Boys’ and Girls’ Track & Field teams will return to action on Friday, April 17th, as they travel to compete in the Charger Relays at North Montgomery High School.
