Bison Dominate Home Quad Meet on April 9th

The Benton Central Track & Field teams delivered an outstanding performance on Thursday, April 9, hosting Fountain Central, North Newton, and South Newton in a quad meet and sweeping both the girls and boys team titles. The Lady Bison put together a dominant showing, winning the meet with 117 points, well ahead of South Newton (59), North Newton (30), and Fountain Central (30). The boys team followed suit with a strong team victory, scoring 76 points, ahead of North Newton (61), South Newton (52), and Fountain Central (49). Benton Central’s success was fueled by numerous first-place finishes and strong depth across all events. On the girls side, Maddie Peterson led the charge on the track, winning the 100m (13.61) and 400m (1:06.36), while also contributing to multiple relay victories. The Bison sprint group showed impressive depth, sweeping the top two spots in the 100m with Riley Sowders (2nd, 13.97) and dominating the 200m with Paige Renfrow (1st, 29.01) and Ava Hands (2nd, 29.32). In distance events, Loralei Rayman was a standout, capturing titles in both the 800m (2:36.74) and 1600m (5:41.30), while Harlo Holder added a win in the 3200m (12:10.92) and a runner-up finish in the 800m. The Lady Bison also excelled in relays, sweeping all three events: 4x100 Relay – 1st (56.39) 4x400 Relay – 1st (4:45.18) 4x800 Relay – 1st (10:57.79) In the field events, Sophia Zarate was dominant, winning both the shot put (33-0.5) and discus (121-9). She was supported by strong finishes from Azlee Reynolds (3rd, shot put) and Ashira Dean (2nd, discus). The boys team matched that success with a balanced and powerful performance. On the track, Benton Central swept all three relays: 4x100 Relay – 1st (47.59) 4x400 Relay – 1st (3:49.13) 4x800 Relay – 1st (9:29.25) Individually, Peyton Thayer won the 400m (57.45), while Matthew McKinnis took the 800m (2:14.59). Distance standout Sam Fleming had a big night, winning both the 1600m (5:22.30) and 3200m (11:48.03). In the sprints, Ezreall Roberson placed 3rd in the 100m (12.16), while Matthew Drake added a 4th-place finish (12.27). The Bison were especially strong in the field events, sweeping the top two spots in the discus with Dominic Dean (1st, 123-2) and Logan Hoaks (2nd, 120-8). In the shot put, Aramis Martinez (2nd, 36-8) and Bransen Jones (3rd, 36-0) added valuable points. Overall, it was a complete team effort for Benton Central, with contributions across every event group helping secure a sweep of both team titles. The Bison will look to carry this momentum forward as they continue their season in upcoming competition. The Boys' and Girls' Track and Field teams return to the track next Tuesday, April 14th when they travel to Lafayette Jefferson to take on the host Bronchos and the Twin Lakes Indians.
