For Immediate Release West Lebanon, IN 4/7/2026 The Benton Central Varsity Track & Field teams kicked off their season in impressive fashion Tuesday night at Seeger High School, with the girls team capturing a first-place finish and the boys team earning second place overall. The Lady Bison delivered a dominant performance across multiple events, highlighted by several first-place finishes. Maddie Peterson led the way in the sprints, winning the 100m dash and finishing second in the 200m dash. Sarah Lambeck had a standout evening, claiming first in the 400m dash, third in the 200m dash, and second in the long jump. Distance events were equally strong, as Loralei Rayman placed first in the 3200m run and second in the 800m run, while Harlo Holder added a third-place finish in the 800m and second in the 1600m. In the hurdles and field events, Keagan Strickland earned first place in both the 100m hurdles and high jump, while Patience Bice secured first in the long jump. In the throwing events, Sophia Zarate dominated with first-place finishes in both shot put and discus. Additional top performances included Riley Sowders (2nd in 100m, 2nd in 300m hurdles), Ava Hands (2nd in 400m), and strong finishes from Zoe Butzke, Laurana Dillon, Azlee Reynolds, and Ashira Dean. The Lady Bison relays were exceptional, sweeping all three events. The 4x100m relay team of Maddie Peterson, Kendall Gephart, Olive Budreau, and Riley Sowders took first place, as did the 4x400m team of Ava Hands, Olive Budreau, Maggie Rayman, and Sarah Lambeck. The 4x800m relay team of Harlo Holder, Maddie Peterson, Loralei Rayman, and Maggie Rayman also earned a first-place finish. On the boys side, the Bison delivered a strong second-place team performance with several standout efforts. Matthew Drake led the field events with a first-place finish in the long jump and added a third-place finish in the 100m dash. Matthew McKinnis earned first place in the 800m run, while the 4x800m relay team of McKinnis, Alex Glotzbach, Peyton Thayer, and Jonah Fleming also captured first place. Additional highlights included Alex Glotzbach’s second-place finish in the 400m dash, Dominic Dean’s second-place finish in discus, and strong contributions from Kayden Wade, Bransen Jones, Eliyjah Roberson, Jonah Fleming, and Sam Fleming. The boys 4x400m relay team of Peyton Thayer, Alex Glotzbach, Matthew McKinnis, and Eliyjah Roberson added a second-place finish. Overall, it was an outstanding season-opening performance for Benton Central Track & Field, showcasing depth, talent, and determination across both teams. The Boys' and Girls' Track and Field Teams return to action on Thursday, April 9th as they host their first Quad Meet of the year featuring North Newton, South Newton, and Fountain Central High Schools for a 6 PM start.
