Benton Central Drops Contest at Delphi Despite Strong Plate Presence

For Immediate Release Delphi, IN 4/7/2026 Benton Central Varsity Baseball dropped a 7-1 decision on the road at Delphi Community on Tuesday night, despite holding a 5-4 advantage in hits. The Bison got off to a strong start, manufacturing a run in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. However, Delphi answered in the bottom of the third when Coghill delivered an RBI single to even the score at 1-1. The game shifted in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Delphi capitalized on key opportunities to break it open. An error brought in a run, followed by a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice bunt by Stevens that plated two more, giving Delphi a 5-1 advantage they would not relinquish. Parker Sexton led the Benton Central offense with two hits, while Grant Weise showed discipline at the plate, drawing two walks. As a team, the Bison worked six walks on the night, demonstrating patience against Delphi pitching. On the mound, Spencer Flook took the loss for Benton Central, pitching 4.1 innings while allowing three runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out five and walking four. Delphi’s Huffman earned the win, going five innings and allowing just one unearned run while striking out seven. Benton Central will look to bounce back on Thursday as they return home to host Covington.
